Haleem...A completely new style...

Haleem is a delicious meat based dish whose essential ingredients are meat, wheat and lentils. Its an all time favourite during the month of Ramadan.Meat lovers will relish this dish. But hey vegans, not to worry.I have good news for you too!!!You can substitute meat with different substitutes like chickpeas and black eyed peas and you get the vegetarian version of haleem.I usually add these even in the meat version...So here goes the recipe friends...Enjoy!!!

Cooking time : 25 minutes
Serves - 4

Ingredients

Chicken -500gm
Onion - 1
Chana Dal- 1/2 cup
Barley - 3 tblspn
Blackeyed peas - 1/2 cup and Channa - 1/2 cup(this is what makes a difference in this style of cooking haleem. These two ingredients are usually never added in haleem.Try it out friends!!!)
Haleem Masala Mix-1 pack
Oil - 4 tblspn
Salt to taste

Method of Preparation

1.Soak barley and dal in water for 2 hours.Pressure cook the barley and dal and keep aside.
2.Heat oil in a pan and add the chicken and haleem masala mix to it.Add required amount of water and cook till the meat is completely tender.
3.Remove the meat from the chicken pieces and add the shredded chicken pieces back to the curry.Add the cooked dal and barley and mash the entire contents well.Cook for 20 minutes and serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.

I am also submitting this recipe for the event 'Joy form Fasting to Feasting' conducted by Yasmeen and Lubna.

Thanks,
Aysha
